“Have you ever seen an American movie?”
“Like the cartoons we were watching the other day?” Atsu asked, sitting still as his sister, Selasi, situated herself on the cement wall to face him.
The pearls of her teeth gleamed as she said: “I wish I were a cartoon.”
“Why would you ever want to be a mindless drawing?”
“It’s better than dying. It must be nice being able to reassemble your body after you explode. It’s like living forever.”
“The bible says that we have a beginning and an end.”
Her smile dissipated like a fade out would do to a great scene. As though the other side of her could come out any second to push him off the edge.
But she looked away and chanted, “The Bible. Bible, bible, bible!”
